But if a Tucson case doesn&#8217;t resolve, it heads to the Pima County Superior Court. That&#8217;s a different courthouse, a different clerk&#8217;s office, and a slightly different process than the one we&#8217;ve described for Maricopa County.<\/p>\n<h2>Where the case actually gets filed<\/h2>\n<p>Civil filings for the Pima County Superior Court go through the Clerk of the Superior Court at 110 W. Congress Street in downtown Tucson. Attorneys must e-file civil case documents; that&#8217;s been the rule since 2015. Self-represented litigants can still file on paper at the courthouse, or opt into the state&#8217;s AZTurboCourt e-filing system instead. Every complaint needs a completed Civil Case Cover Sheet naming all plaintiffs and defendants. Skip that paperwork, and the clerk&#8217;s office won&#8217;t accept the filing.<\/p>\n<h2>Small claims stay out of Superior Court<\/h2>\n<p>Claims worth $10,000 or less generally belong in Justice Court, not Superior Court. A claimant can voluntarily cap a larger claim at that amount to stay in Justice Court. They can&#8217;t, however, split one claim into two separate filings to get around the limit. Most personal injury cases worth pursuing with an attorney exceed that threshold, so they proceed in Superior Court.<\/p>\n<h2>What happens after the complaint is filed<\/h2>\n<p>Dozens of judicial officers staff the Pima County Superior Court&#8217;s civil bench, led by a Presiding Judge and an Associate Presiding Judge. Once the complaint and summons are filed, the plaintiff has to formally serve the defendant. The court doesn&#8217;t do this step automatically. If service isn&#8217;t completed within 120 days of filing, the court can dismiss the case without further notice.
